Faces in the Crowd: Micki Jones studies the science of the eyes
Area resident says Iridology is compatible with medicine

by Jennifer Leahy, Chronicle Correspondent

The eyes have been touted as a “window to the soul,” but for Kingwood Iridologist Marion “Micki” Jones, they are a window to the body as well.

Jones became interested in Iridology as a young mother frustrated with the repeated ear infections and illnesses of her then 3 year old son.

“A friend of mind said, ‘There is this person coming to town that can supposedly look into your eyes and tell you what is wrong with you’ and I figured that I had nothing to lose. My son had been to a lot of doctors, had a lot of tests run, and still was constantly sick,” Jones said.

The Iridologist told her food allergies were causing her son’s problem and said his diet was making him sick. “Within six weeks he was perfectly healthy,”Jones said.

Jones knew then that she had found her calling, and immediately began studying the science of the eye.

“I still study all of the time.”

Noting that every part of the body is connected to a nerve that travels through the brain and into the optic nerve, Jones uses the light and dark shadings of the iris to determine which areas of the body may be weakened.

Her clinic, Abundant Health and Wellness Center, is tucked away off of Kingwood Drive and Chestnut Ridge, and has helped hundreds of local residents find better health and improve their lifestyles.

“Iridology is not used to diagnose disease. Instead it allows us to see which areas of the body are overactive or underactive and to see what you have inherited in the way of genetics,” she said.

“You can then work to elevate the areas of deficiency.”

Though she is a degreed naturopathic doctor, Jones says iridology should complement traditional medicine.

“I would never tell a patient to stop taking their medicines. What I can help people to do is to get their bodies into a better balance so that they do not need the medicine anymore,” she said.

Jones first photographs and analyzes the eyes of a new client. She will ask about specific symptoms and take a clients’ medical history. A complete health program is also designed, which will feature diet, exercise and perhaps nutritional supplements.

“If I see something that causes concern, I will then advise that they see a physician. Also, I may recommend supplements but would never force anything.” said Jones.

Registered nurse Jeannie Allen has been a client of Jones for more than 20 years and has brought numerous coworkers and friends to see her.

“So many people were very skeptical when they first heard about Micki but everything she has said has been right on the money. My nurse friends, who at first called her my ‘witch doctor’ are now believers in Iridology.”

“The name of the game is prevention, and Micki can see sub–clinical things in your body, things that would never show up on a medical test. You can then work to correct the imbalances before they become serious problems,” Allen said. “Health is not something that comes to you, it is earned by the way that you live.” said Allen.

She consults with Jones twice a year. Each session costs $75 per hour.

“It is an investment in your health, in keeping your body balanced,” said Allen.
